BGL team stands out at the 2024 MSBA Legal Summit and Annual Meeting with twelve attendees and six seminar presenters.

With several presenters and many attendees, Brown, Goldstein & Levy was once again well represented at the Maryland State Bar Association’s 2024 Legal Summit and Annual Meeting, hosted from June 5 to 7 in Ocean City, Maryland.

The MSBA Legal Summit is a pinnacle event for Maryland’s legal professionals in every practice area and career stage, providing an opportunity to connect, learn from fellow attendees, and strategize on how best to move the legal profession forward. For attending attorneys, the event included access to over 100 thought leadership and educational programs, multiple networking events, and access to two signature receptions and a trade show.

BGL stood out among the crowd during the three-day event. Twelve attorneys and professional staff – or about half of the firm – attended the Summit: Michael AbramsMonica Basche, Maya Campbell, Chelsea CrawfordLauren DiMartinoKevin DochertyMichele HallSharon Krevor-WeisbaumAndy LevyAnthony MayJamie Strawbridgeand Jessie Weber. Additionally, six of our BGL attendees presented hour-long seminars on topics of their expertise on Wednesday, June 6.

Jamie Strawbridge and Lauren DiMartino presented, “The Meaning of ‘Rent’ and Other Key Developments in Landlord-Tenant Law.” In this seminar, Jamie explored the Smith v. Westminster Management decision, which the Maryland Supreme Court issued on March 25. Jamie and Lauren drew from each of their significant experience representing tenants in housing-related cases, defending tenants in eviction proceedings, and fighting to preserve individuals’ housing-related benefits in administrative actions.

Lauren DiMartino and Maya Campbell presented “Practical ‘Client-Centered’ Lawyering: Using Counseling Techniques to Build Relationships, Support, Clients, and Improve Outcomes.” With a combination of Lauren’s experience in client-centered legal practice and Maya’s experience in social work, the seminar provided a unique take on the various ways lawyers can use humanity and compassion to better connect with clients.

Anthony May, Michael Abrams, and Michele Hall presented “Making Amici Your Friend! Strategies for Selecting and Coordinating with Potential Amici, Garnering Amicus Support and Representing Amici in Courts” with Supreme Court of Maryland Justice Brynja Booth. All three attorneys drew from their experience authoring and representing amicus briefs in court and applied their techniques to several practice areas: civil rights, appeals, criminal defense and investigations, and more.

Following the Summit, Andy and Sandy Levy hosted an MSBA Legal Summit Open House in Ocean Pines, Md., where BGL and MSBA Summit attendees could mingle over food and drinks.
