Nine BGL attorneys attended the Summit, with five sharing their industry-leading experience and knowledge during educational sessions on June 4 and 5.

The MSBA Legal Summit has connected the Maryland legal community for over 30 years in a pinnacle event for attorneys of all stages and practice areas. As the MSBA’s signature event, the Summit draws more than 1,000 attendees to over 75 thought leadership seminars, workshops, and networking sessions, as well as two receptions and a trade show. Nine attorneys attended the 2025 Legal Summit: Monica Basche, Jacqui Cadman, Lauren DiMartino, Kevin Docherty, Anthony May, Catalina Odio, Anisha Queen, Jamie Strawbridge, and Jessie Weber.

The five presenters from BGL led two engaging seminars:

Three BGL attorneys - Kevin Docherty, Anisha Queen, and Jamie Strawbridge - smile while seated at a long table in front of a Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) banner during the 2025 MSBA Legal Summit, where they presented a seminar. The table holds microphones, a coffee cup, phones, notepad, and computer.Kevin Docherty, Anisha Queen, and Jamie Strawbridge presented “Personal Jurisdiction in a Virtual World,” which explored the employer-employee dispute landscape following the significant shift to telework as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Remote work has significant implications on the existence of personal jurisdiction in Maryland in cases involving breach of contract, violation of the Maryland Uniform Trade Secrets Act, and other workplace-related claims. Jamie, Kevin and Anisha drew from their significant experience in employment law and resolving employer-employee disputes to discuss key considerations driving personal jurisdiction analysis. Their presentation also used case studies to discuss how the emergence of telework could impact future litigation decisions.

A conference room filled with attendees seated at tables, facing BGL attorneys Anthony May and Lauren DiMartino who are seated at the front presenting a slide for their session titled "Chapter 2: The storytelling advocate's toolkit" at the Maryland State Bar Association’s 2025 Legal Summit. Attendees are engaged, taking notes and viewing slides on laptops.Anthony May and Lauren DiMartino presented “Telling a Compelling Story,” which explored writing and storytelling techniques to elicit interest, build dramatic tension, and deemphasize unfavorable facts in litigation without losing credibility. Anthony and Lauren’s session encouraged attendees to reflect on how to bring life to their clients’ stories in a way that vindicates them and draws empathy from varied audiences. The session also discussed the role of language in contributing to or deconstructing harmful patterns. With hands-on exercises, attendees at their session engaged in sensory writing to practice their creative writing and narration for a legal setting.

As annual MSBA Legal Summit attendees, BGL attorneys always enjoy the opportunity to connect with fellow legal professionals and discuss new developments in shared practice areas. We look forward to next year’s Summit.
