Attorneys celebrated law students, alumni, and community members at UBLaw’s Black Law Students Association Annual Awards Banquet; attorneys and staff attended the MD premiere of a film about the 108-year wrongful conviction of BGL clients, the Harlem Park Three, at the MD Film Festival; and Jacqueline Cadman connected with other leading women litigators at the WBA-DC’s Litigation Forum Happy Hour.

On April 16, Brown, Goldstein & Levy sponsored the University of Baltimore School of Law’s Black Law Students Association (UBalt BLSA) 44th Annual Awards Banquet in celebration of 50 years of the organization advancing Black excellence within the legal profession. The theme of the event was, “In Every Season, We Grow,” recognizing the organization’s continued investment in the next generation of legal professionals. Managing Partner Jessie Weber, partner Monica Basche, partner Greg Care, and attorney Michelle Fraling attended the event on behalf of BGL.

Attorneys Andy Freeman, Joshua Auerbach, Lauren DiMartino, Aranda Stathers, Michael Abrams, and Marisa Leib-Neri and staffers Denise Altobelli, Andi McIver, and Brittney Southward recently attended the Maryland premiere of When a Witness Recants at the 2026 Maryland Film Festival on April 12. The documentary, directed by Dawn and produced my Ta-Nehisi Coates, chronicles the story of three Baltimore men who were wrongfully convicted at age 16 of the 1983 murder of DeWitt Duckett at Harlem Park Junior High School. Alfred Chestnut, Andrew Stewart, and Ransom Watkins—known as the Harlem Park Three—were exonerated in 2019 after spending 36 years in prison each. At 108 combined years, the Harlem Park Three served more years than any other wrongful conviction case in American history. BGL, who represented Mr. Chestnut, Mr. Stewart, and Mr. Watkins in their wrongful conviction case along with co-counsel at Nathans & Biddle, reached a historic $48 million settlement in 2023.

On April 9, partner Jacqueline Cadman joined the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia Litigation Forum Happy Hour, where she connected with fellow women litigators and leading attorneys from across the DC region.
