BGL received the 2024 Defender of Innocence award at the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project’s 15th Annual Awards Luncheon.

Brown, Goldstein & Levy was honored to receive the 2024 Defender of Innocence award from the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project at its 15th Annual Awards Luncheon. BGL received the award for its work securing historic settlements for exonerees and advocating reforms to exoneree compensation laws. In addition to BGL, MAIP clients Troy Burner and the late Hubert James Williams were honored for their tireless work in reforming the criminal legal system and supporting exonerees.

The Annual Awards Luncheon is an inspiring event that raises MAIP’s greatest source of income that helps to provide free, timely legal services to incarcerated citizens who maintain their innocence. Ten BGL attorneys, summer associates, and professional staff attended the event: Neel Lalchandani, Andy Freeman, Chelsea Crawford, Jacqui Cadman, Michael Abrams, Michele Hall, Erin Turvey, Christina Williams, Maya Campbell, and Samantha Duckworth.

BGL has obtained substantial verdicts and settlements for numerous clients who were convicted of crimes they did not commit, including some of the largest settlements in the State of Maryland. We are proud to continue supporting MAIP in its mission and work to correct and prevent the conviction of innocent people across Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
