Neel Lalchandani and Jamie Strawbridge, attorneys at Brown, Goldstein & Levy, presented as part of a national webinar discussing securing disability-related accommodations for the bar exam. The virtual webinar took place on September 19, in partnership with the National Disabled Law Students Association (NDLSA) and the National Disabled Legal Professionals Association (NDLPA).
NDLSA and NDLPA are sister organizations that advocate on behalf of law students and professionals with disabilities, respectively. The organizations partnered with BGL to host this event due to the firm’s expertise and interest in assisting law students and professionals with disabilities thrive in the legal profession. Additionally, Neel and Jamie had the opportunity to discuss BGL’s nationwide disability rights practice.
During their presentation, Neel and Jamie discussed the process for seeking accommodations on the bar exam and Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE). They also addressed the common reasons that testing entities deny testing accommodations and the process for appealing or seeking reconsideration of such denials. Neel and Jamie provided further context by explaining current Department of Justice guidance on bar exam accommodations. Finally, they shared where students and professionals can go if they need additional support, including BGL, NDLSA, and NDPLA.
Neel and Jamie both have deep experience advocating for clients on a wide range of civil rights issues, including in high-stakes testing. They both practice in BGL’s disability rights section, where they advocate on behalf of students seeking accommodations for standardized exams. Neel has written extensively about accommodations in high-stakes testing, and recently presented at Brooklyn Law School and the Greater Baltimore Chapter of Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD). BGL was thrilled to partner with NDLSA and NDPLA to share Neel and Jamie’s expertise at a national level.
