On April 9, Neel Lalchandani and Anthony May, partners at Brown, Goldstein & Levy, spoke to a Civil Rights Litigation class at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. Neel and Anthony spoke to law students about their practical experience working on wrongful conviction cases.
The course, taught by Assistant Professor of Law Tiffany Yang, is designed for law students who have a strong interest in complex litigation and civil rights. It approaches the intersection of both fields by covering topics such as causes of action for constitutional violations, remedies and procedural considerations, as well as covering doctrines that govern federal enforcement of civil rights by individual plaintiffs. The course also considers various models of civil rights lawyering and how lawyers can bridge litigation and movements for social justice.
Anthony and Neel are passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of attorneys. Neel previously served as an adjunct faculty member at the Georgetown University Law Center to teach a semester-long seminar on wrongful convictions. Anthony has remained active in the Carey Law community as a member of the Alumni Board. He also served as an adjunct professor of written and oral advocacy.
