Anthony May, attorney at Brown, Goldstein & Levy, LLP, was recognized as a Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch for Appellate Practice, Civil Rights Law and Commercial Litigation for 2022. Inclusion in this list is reserved for extraordinary attorneys who exhibit outstanding professional excellence and have been in private practice for less than 10 years in the United States.
Anthony has represented clients in a variety of complex litigation matters, including assisting employees with disabilities in obtaining accessible technology and accommodations in the workplace, representing individuals who have been wrongfully convicted, commercial litigation disputes, and fighting workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation. He is one of five Brown, Goldstein & Levy lawyers currently pursuing justice in federal court for Alfred Chestnut, Andrew Stewart and Ransom Watkins — known as the “Harlem Park Three” — for the 108 combined years they served in prison for a crime they did not commit, which is the longest wrongful incarceration in United States history. Anthony previously obtained a consent decree with a Florida public school system that, among other things, required the district to acquire accessible technology for its educators after the Board of Education failed to secure accessible technology mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act for one of its clinical counselors who is blind.
Prior to joining the firm, Anthony was the Francis D. Murnaghan, Jr. Appellate Advocacy Fellow at the Public Justice Center, where he represented indigent clients, authored amicus briefs and argued in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and Maryland appellate courts on various anti-poverty and civil rights cases.
Anthony was recognized as a 2020, 2021, and 2022 Super Lawyers Maryland Rising Star — an honor reserved for only 2.5 percent of Maryland attorneys each year. Additionally, he received the Daily Record’s 2020 Generation J.D. Award, which recognizes up-and-coming attorneys across Maryland.
Best Lawyers is widely regarded – by both the profession and the public – as the nation’s most credible measure of legal integrity and distinction. As such, recognition by Best Lawyers symbolizes excellence in practice. Inclusion in Best Lawyers is based on a peer-review survey of more than 8.2 million confidential evaluations by lawyers recognized as the best in their fields. In other words, the best lawyers know who the best lawyers are.
