Attorneys Joshua Auerbach, Monica Basche, Marisa Leib-Neri, Catalina Odio, and Jessie Weber and staffers Kayle Hill and Rhonda Wedel recently visited the Amy Sherald: American Sublime exhibition on March 15 at the Baltimore Museum of Art. The exhibition explores the vision and artistic practice of Baltimore-based artist Amy Sherald through 38 paintings created between 2007 and the present. The collection traces Sherald’s artistic evolution, from her early work to her now-iconic portraits of Black Americans depicted in everyday moments, including the renowned portraits of former First Lady Michelle Obama, which was commissioned for the National Portrait Gallery, and Breonna Taylor, who was shot and killed by police officers in a botched police raid in 2020.
Many of the works featured in American Sublime were painted in Baltimore and feature Baltimore-based models, grounding the exhibition in the city’s cultural fabric. Through her distinctive style and storytelling, Sherald’s work celebrates identity, community, and representation while reflecting a deep sense of civic pride. The exhibition offered a meaningful opportunity for our attorneys and staff to appreciate the cultural significance of Sherald’s work while celebrating the vibrancy of the Baltimore community.
