On May 26, 2021, the American Health Law Association (AHLA) hosted a virtual Roundtable designed for diversity officers and law firm leaders and in-house counsel. AHLA brought together decision-makers and thought leaders from across the country to discuss best practices for the inclusion of people with disabilities in the delivery of legal services and how to best serve clients with disabilities with a focus on the practical and human connection. AHLA CEO David S. Cade moderated the Roundtable, and was joined by Sharon Krevor-Weisbaum from Brown, Goldstein & Levy who shared her firm’s work in this area; Kevin Hara from Reed Smith spoke about its LEADRS (Looking for Excellence and Advancement of individuals with Disabilities at Reed Smith) affinity group and how the firm seeks to attract, support and retain attorneys with disabilities; and Joanne Lax, a retired health lawyer with a visual impairment who serves on the AHLA Board of Directors, talked about her personal experience working in a large law firm.
