Neel Lalchandani, attorney at Brown, Goldstein & Levy, was named to the Baltimore Business Journal’s 2023 class of 40 Under 40 honorees. Published annually, the list highlights up-and-coming executives in the Baltimore region’s business community. Neel was selected from a pool of 300 nominations from a variety of industries, including real estate, finance, law, and hospitality. The BBJ honored the 2023 40 Under 40 class on Tuesday, November 14 at the Marriott Owings Mills Metro Centre.
Neel represents individuals, nonprofits, and companies in a diverse array of civil rights and commercial matters. Among other victories for his clients, Neel has helped secure several of the largest payments in Maryland history for victims of police misconduct, including over $15 million in state compensation on behalf of innocent men imprisoned for crimes they did not commit. He is a leading authority on the Walter Lomax Act, which sets a standard compensation formula for Maryland exonerees. Neel has represented several clients who have each received significant state compensation amounts under the Act, including exonerees Kirk Bloodsworth, Leslie Vass, and Bernard Webster. He is also part of the BGL team representing three men known as the “Harlem Park Three,” who served a combined 108 years in prison for a murder they did not commit.
Neel was recognized on the 2023 The Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch List for Appellate Practice, Civil Rights Law and Commercial Litigation. For the last two years, he has earned a place on The National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 list for Civil Plaintiff law. Neel earned The Maryland Pro Bono Resource Center’s Alex Fee Maryland Pro Bono Service Award in 2022, as well as The Daily Record and the Maryland State Bar Association’s Leader in Law Award the same year. Neel has also earned the distinction of Maryland Super Lawyer: Rising Star each year since 2020.
