BGL attorney Neel Lalchandani, who serves on the Board of Directors of the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project (MAIP), helped organize the MAIP Spring Gathering, where Executive Director, Shawn Armbrust, and a former MAIP client who was exonerated shared more about the project’s work, ways to support the organization, and the launch of the MAIP Ambassadors Program.
Neel, who was appointed to the Board in 2022, attended the April 27 event, alongside fellow Board members, attorneys, exonerees, and community advocates. Brown, Goldstein & Levy has long supported MAIP’s mission of preventing and correcting the conviction of innocent people in Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. MAIP has one of the best track records among innocence organizations for exonerating individuals who have been wrongfully convicted.

Among other victories for his clients, Neel has helped secure several of the largest payments in Maryland history for victims of police misconduct, including over $15 million in state compensation on behalf of innocent men imprisoned for crimes they did not commit. Neel is an adjunct faculty member at Georgetown University teaching a seminar on wrongful conviction and has participated in training panels to teach the legal community about the Walter Lomax Act.
