Neel Lalchandani, partner at Brown, Goldstein & Levy, has accepted a position as Board Chair of the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project, where he has served for over three years. Neel previously served as Vice Chair of the Board. He joined the Board for the first time in late 2022, serving alongside a diverse group of individuals from a variety of different industries. As Chair, Neel now leads the Board in its work to advance MAIP’s mission to correct and prevent the conviction of innocent people across Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.
Neel’s appointment not only represents his dedication to the organization but to his own longstanding passion for representing individuals who have been convicted of crimes they did not commit. Among other victories for his clients, Neel has helped secure several of the largest payments in Maryland history for victims of police misconduct, including more than $80 million for innocent men imprisoned for crimes they did not commit.
Neel is an authority on the Walter Lomax Act, Maryland legislation that sets a standard compensation formula for state exonerees. Neel has represented numerous clients who each received significant state compensation, including exonerees Kirk Bloodsworth, Leslie Vass, and Bernard Webster.
