Monica Basche, attorney at Brown, Goldstein & Levy, presented at the 2024 NORML Key West Legal Seminar this week. During her presentation, “Medical Cannabis and Disability Discrimination: Putting Disability Law in the Cannabis Lawyer’s Toolkit,” Monica shared her expertise on the intersection of medical cannabis and disability discrimination and explored the legal obstacles that people with disabilities face when seeking medical cannabis for treatment, as well as civil rights protections for individuals who use medical cannabis for symptom management.
NORML’s Key West Legal Seminar offered a full agenda of presentations by expert speakers, legal scholars, and thought leaders from across the country on a variety of issues involving marijuana and the law. Every year, the seminar is held at the Pier House Resort & Spa, located on a private beach in Key West, Florida to give thought leaders in the marijuana legal space an opportunity to learn effective strategies to protect and defend clients and advance the reform of marijuana laws.
Monica is a dedicated disability rights and commercial litigation attorney. Through her practice, she has explored the intersections of cannabis law with many aspects of civil rights, and attending this year’s NORML seminar allowed her to share her knowledge and learn from fellow leaders in the space. As a firm, BGL represents businesses and individuals involved in the cultivation, processing, and distribution of cannabis in breach of contract actions, ownership, governance and management disputes, and finance disputes. BGL works with cannabis-related clients to understand the risks and rewards of litigation, arbitration, and mediation, and helps them plot an efficient course to realize their business objectives.
