Monica Basche attends Decarceration & the Role of Law School Clinics Symposium at 2023 UMD Carey Law Alumni Weekend.

Monica Basche, AssociateBGL attorney Monica Basche recently attended the Decarceration & the Role of Law School Clinics Symposium hosted by the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law Clinical Law Program and the Journal of Race, Religion, Gender and Class. The symposium was part of Carey Law’s 2023 Alumni Weekend, which took place from March 30 to April 1.

Monica joined her fellow alumni, current students, and leading attorneys in discussing the role of law school clinics, working in partnership with others in the community, in representing incarcerated people in release proceedings, proposing and supporting decarceration reforms, and working to reduce the prison population. The event helped mark the 50th year celebration of clinical education at Maryland Carey Law.

Monica is a 2016 graduate of Maryland Carey Law, where she graduated magna cum laude in the Order of the Coif. While in law school, Monica was the Executive Articles Editor for the Maryland Law Review and worked as a student attorney in the Gender Violence Clinic, where she represented clients in family and civil law matters in state court.

Since joining Brown, Goldstein & Levy in 2019, Monica has built a notable practice representing clients in civil rights cases, including prisoners’ rights, disability rights, housing discrimination, and employment discrimination. Monica also has experience with commercial litigation and business disputes. Last month, Monica was honored as a 2023 Leader in Law by the Maryland State Bar Association and The Daily Record.
