Brown, Goldstein & Levy Managing Partner Jessie Weber, a nationally recognized leader in website accessibility law, was invited by the Federal Bar Association’s Civil Rights Law Section to help equip attorneys with the tools to fully understand website accessibility law and effectively litigate accessibility cases.
On June 3, Jessie moderated a panel, entitled “Decoding Website Accessibility: What Every Attorney Needs to Know,” alongside panelists Michael Silverman, Digital Accessibility Strategist, and Peter Bossley, Accessibility Ally Inc. President. The conversation examined the technical components of website accessibility and explained how the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are applied in practice.
The following day, Jessie presented in a webinar centered on “Litigating Website Accessibility Cases: An Overview and the View from the Plaintiff and Defense Perspectives.” She was joined by fellow attorneys Richard Hunt and William D. Goren. Jessie shared her deep knowledge of federal disability rights law, including ADA and Section 504 requirements, and plaintiff-side litigation experience to help attendees understand applicable laws and rules, mitigate concerns, and gain practical understanding of plaintiff-side litigation strategies.
ABOUT JESSIE WEBER
Jessie Weber enjoys helping clients navigate a diverse range of difficult legal issues, with a focus on civil rights, including disability and LGBTQ rights, employment law, including wage and hour cases, and appellate litigation. She has successfully litigated and resolved cases involving accessible technology and document formats, voting rights for individuals with print disabilities, access to health care and educational opportunities, and employment discrimination. She currently represents blind students and the National Federation of the Blind in litigation against the Los Angeles Community College District, and obtained a jury verdict finding LACCD violated plaintiffs’ rights under Title II of the ADA by denying them an equal educational experience, including through the use of inaccessible technology, and awarding the individual plaintiffs more than $240,000 in damages—a verdict recently reinstated by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Jessie was also part of the legal team advocating for coverage of websites and mobile applications under the ADA in Robles v. Domino’s Pizza, LLC. She successfully argued on behalf of amici, including the National Federation of the Blind, before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, helping secure a precedent-setting decision holding that businesses covered by ADA Title III cannot postpone making their websites and mobile applications accessible while awaiting regulations from the U.S. Department of Justice. Jessie later joined the plaintiff’s trial team, where she helped obtain an order requiring Domino’s to make its website accessible under the ADA. The case remains one of the nation’s most influential website accessibility decisions.
Jessie is an experienced appellate litigator. She has argued before the Fourth, Sixth, Ninth, and D.C. Circuit Courts of Appeals and has also submitted briefs in the United States Supreme Court, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and in state appellate courts in Maryland and Washington State. Jessie is well versed in both complex litigation and negotiations and enjoys using a range of tools to obtain justice for her clients. Learn more about Jessie here.
