BGL partner Jessie Weber recently spoke at the 2023 Maryland State Bar Association Legal Summit, where she was a panelist at two presentations: “Effective Representation of Clients with Disabilities and Assuring Court Access” on June 8 and “COVID-19’s Long Tail: Employment Law Lessons from the Pandemic” on June 9.
Jessie discussed the legal requirements governing lawyers’ interactions with clients and potential clients with disabilities and offered solutions for ensuring clients with disabilities have equal access to justice in the June 8 program. During the panel on employment law lessons from the pandemic on June 9, Jessie examined various shifts in the law and new EEOC guidance that arose during the pandemic and highlighted important takeaways for lawyers advocating to protect and advance employees’ rights.
Jessie enjoys helping clients navigate a diverse range of difficult legal issues, with a focus on civil rights, including disability and LGBTQ rights, employment law, including wage and hour cases, and appellate litigation. Jessie was part of the BGL team that recently secured a $240,000 jury verdict for two blind students in a discrimination lawsuit against the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), with the jury finding that LACCD violated the ADA in 14 different ways and, in most cases, did so with deliberate indifference. Jessie’s many other successes also include obtaining a $1.25 million settlement for a class of Baltimore City school bus drivers and attendants wrongly denied their full pay.
