Jamie Strawbridge presents on Americans with Disabilities Act Title I rights for individuals with lupus at the “Lupus & You: Washington D.C. Empowerment Conference.”

Jamie Strawbridge, an attorney at Brown, Goldstein & Levy, presented at the “2024 Lupus & You: Washington D.C. Empowerment Conference,” hosted on Nov. 9 at George Washington University. The program was designed to educate and engage lupus warriors and their care partners, families and friends, providing the most up-to-date information on living and coping with the illness.

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks healthy tissue. Living with lupus is challenging for those affected, and the symptoms associated with the illness can make daily tasks difficult to accomplish. Jamie’s presentation, “Disability Accommodations and Your Rights,” provided an overview of what rights individuals with lupus have in the employment sphere under Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and how they can get the accommodations they need.

Jamie’s presentation was critical, both for individuals living with lupus and their employers. Many lupus symptoms are not visible, leading to a higher risk of misunderstanding or stigma from people without the illness. Understanding the ADA’s Title I protections is an important step toward making sure that employees with lupus can work free from discrimination.

Jamie’s presentation also discussed Inclusivity, BGL’s disability consulting group that works with employers and organizations to ensure that they are providing welcoming and lawful environments for individuals with disabilities. Jamie serves as a principal at Inclusivity, where he helps public and private sector organizations and industry groups navigate the rapidly changing landscape of disability and civil rights with strategic consulting services.
