On June 18, 2020, Greg Care, partner at Brown, Goldstein & Levy, was the keynote speaker at one of John Hopkins University’s weekly educational didactics conferences. Greg’s talk was a combination of a “know your rights” presentation as well as a discussion about medicolegal issues in training and in independent practice.
Normally at these conferences, the residents discuss medical issues, and sometimes business issues for those going into private practice but have never had a legal authority speak with them. Many of the topics Greg discussed were issues that residents experienced or were concerned about but did not know how to address.
Greg’s presentation covered a list of concerns that he commonly sees when representing medical residents. From contracts to disciplinary issues to evaluations and remediation best practices. The presentation was well attended with residents who were fully engaged and asked thoughtful questions.
