The Judge David L. Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, a national legal advocacy organization advancing the rights of people with mental disabilities, announced the election of Eve Hill as the new chair of the organization’s board of trustees.
“We are thrilled that Eve has stepped up to lead the Bazelon Center’s Board of Trustees,” said Holly O’Donnell, CEO for the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law. “As an accomplished disability rights lawyer, an effective and passionate advocate for people with mental disabilities, and a true champion of the Bazelon Center’s mission, we are looking forward to working with Eve and the Board to advance the Center in new and meaningful ways.”
In addition to serving as a board member at the Bazelon Center since 2017, Hill is currently a partner at the law firm Brown Goldstein & Levy, where she continues to pursue her devotion to civil rights. She is known as one of the nation’s leading disability rights attorneys. Before joining Brown, Goldstein & Levy, Hill was Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice, where she was a member of the Civil Rights Division’s leadership team. While at the Department of Justice, Hill participated in the negotiating team for the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled. She testified before Senate Committees on disability rights issues, in addition to working on several high-impact cases that enforced civil rights in education, law enforcement, public services, and health care contexts.
Previously, Hill served as Senior Vice President of the Burton Blatt Institute at Syracuse University, where she was responsible for the Institute’s disability civil rights work. She was the founding Director of the Washington, D.C. Office of Disability Rights, a Cabinet-level D.C. government agency. Before joining the District of Columbia, Hill was the Executive Director of the Disability Rights Legal Center in Los Angeles. She was also a Visiting Associate Professor of Law at Loyola Law School and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern California School of Law and Loyola Marymount University School of Education.
