On March 14, 2024, the Chief Judge for the federal District Court of the District of Columbia selected Kobie Flowers, partner at Brown, Goldstein & Levy, to sit on the Merit Selection Panel. Kobie serves on this Panel with other lawyers and non-lawyers. The Panel recommends a slate of judge candidates to the Article III judges, who make the final selection of the next U.S. Magistrate Judge for the District of Columbia.
This appointment marks Kobie’s second selection to such a Panel. In 2018, the Chief Judge for the District of Maryland selected Kobie to serve on the Panel. For his service, the Maryland federal Court awarded Kobie and his fellow panelists the Exceptional Service Award in 2023.
It is a rare honor for two Chief Judges from two different federal districts to select one lawyer to serve on their respective Merit Selection Panels. Congratulations, Kobie!
