NFB Membership Building Coordinator Danielle McCann and NFB Education Programs Coordinator Karen Anderson led the team on a fun, informative 90-minute tour of the facility, where the BGL team learned about the history of the Federation, learned more about day-to-day operations at its headquarters, and met members of the NFB community – including President Mark Riccobono.

The NFB established its headquarters in Baltimore in 1978. Since then, the building has grown to encompass an entire city block. In 2004, the NFB named its headquarters the Jernigan Institute, after Dr. Kenneth Jernigan, an early leader in the blind civil rights movement and the former President of the NFB. The facility houses many resources, including modern computer labs, training facilities, conference spaces, full-service dining facilities, the Jacobus tenBroek Library, the Independence Market, and the International Braille and Technology Center for the Blind.A wall-mounted mosaic art piece composed of two panels. The left panel features the logo for the National Federation of the Blind. The right panel displays the text "NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND" and the tagline "Live the life you want." in white letters against a multicolored mosaic background. Below the panels are a red chair, a wooden side table, and a black lamp with a white lampshade.

Those in attendance included attorneys Alisha Jarwala, Catalina OdioErin O’Neill, and Aranda Stathers; summer associates Rachel Bechtel, Lyllian Simerly, Kristina Smith, and Mira Ward; and staff members Maya Campbell, Nate Gerber, and Andi McIver.

The BGL team has a long history of collaboration with the NFB, and we are committed to standing beside them in the fight for justice and breaking down barriers that blind people and their families face every day. Founding partner, Dan Goldstein, first took on the role of the NFB’s counsel in 1986. Since then, BGL has represented nearly 50,000 NFB members, winning significant victories in groundbreaking and highly impactful cases. Our work with the NFB has shaped how courts interpret the Americans with Disabilities Act and has obtained justice for clients in cases ranging from employment, education, technology accessibility, parental rights, voting and more. Partner Eve Hill currently leads BGL’s work on behalf of the NFB with support from the firm’s robust disability rights practice area team.Staff members of the National Federation of the Blind give a group of Brown, Goldstein & Levy attorneys and staff members a tour of the National Federation of the Blind headquarters in Baltimore, MD.
