Partner Jacqueline Cadman invited to lecture at prestigious Georgetown’s Criminal Defense & Prisoner Advocacy Clinic on sentencing and mitigation with future criminal defense lawyers.

Brown, Goldstein & Levy partner Jacqueline Cadman was honored to share her leading criminal defense experience as a visiting lecturer on September 24 at Georgetown Law, teaching for their Criminal Defense & Prisoner Advocacy Clinic. Jacqui’s lecture focused on sentencing and mitigation. Jacqui has earned a reputation of being one of the District of Columbia’s leading criminal trial lawyers and was tapped to help the Clinic’s aspiring criminal defense attorneys hone their craft.

The Criminal Defense & Prisoner Advocacy Clinic (CDPAC) offers law students an intensive learning experience in indigent criminal defense and prisoner advocacy through client representation. The clinic strives to teach students an understanding of the culture and ethics of indigent criminal defense and develop expertise in criminal trial advocacy and the representation of prisoners. Jacqui was thrilled to visit CDPAC and help equip the next generation of criminal defense lawyers with important insight on sentencing and mitigation they may use as trial attorneys.

The United States currently incarcerates a greater percentage of its citizens than anywhere else on earth—a total of 2.3 million people. The US has less than 5 percent of the world’s population, but almost a quarter of the world’s prisoners. Recent data indicates that, one in two young African American men is either in jail or prison or on probation or parole in the District of Columbia. Students in the Clinic represent indigent defendants facing trial in misdemeanor cases in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia, and those convicted of crime in parole and probation hearings. Jacqui was honored to lend her leading 19 plus years of trial and criminal defense experience to continue her work of helping combat mass incarceration in the United States.

Jacqui is widely regarded as one of the best criminal trial lawyers in the District of Columbia. She has tried hundreds of cases throughout her career, ranging from traffic and misdemeanor offenses to the most serious charges, including homicide and sexual assault. Jacqui’s experience and acumen in the courtroom has made her a sought-after lecturer, trainer, and speaker. She has organized and led countless skills-based and law trainings for criminal and civil practitioners, investigators, social workers, and judicial delegations from other countries.
