Brown, Goldstein & Levy commemorates Martin Luther King Jr. Day by celebrating and continuing his lifelong fight for justice and equality.

On January 20, 2025, Brown, Goldstein & Levy celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day, honoring Dr. King’s lifelong commitment to justice, service, and advocacy. As a leading figure in the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. King spearheaded pivotal moments in history, including the 1963 March on Washington, and became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.

We pay tribute to Dr. King’s unwavering dedication to nonviolent resistance and his tireless fight against injustice, racial oppression, and inequality. We at BGL reaffirm our commitment to his legacy by advocating for racial justice, striving to provide equitable legal representation, and championing the rights of Black and Brown communities.

We also reflect on the enduring impact of Dr. King’s work, which continues to inspire our efforts to address the ongoing struggles for civil rights and equal opportunities for all. Our mission is deeply rooted in delivering exceptional legal services while upholding our strong sense of community and social responsibility. Whether resolving individual disputes or driving systemic change, we remain dedicated to amplifying our clients’ voices and fighting for their rights.

Our firm’s commitment to racial justice is longstanding. Founding partner Chris Brown’s early cases included a series of Voting Rights Act lawsuits that brought the first Black politicians to local elected offices across Maryland’s Eastern Shore and Fair Housing Act cases against landlords that denied apartments to Black tenants. In the years since, BGL attorneys represented a Maryland Legal Aid attorney who was detained by a deputy sheriff following a court hearing for “lawyering while black,” and won an arbitration award of more than $250,000 on behalf of a Hooters server fired from her job because of Hooters’ racially discriminatory image policy—both cases that received national attention. We also obtained 4,400 vouchers and mobility counseling, worth over $1 billion, to enable Black families to move from public housing and other segregated areas of Baltimore City to communities of opportunity throughout the Baltimore region. Currently, we represent the National Fair Housing Alliance and fair housing groups across the country in a lawsuit against Bank of America and Safeguard Properties Management, LLC, for maintaining foreclosed-upon homes in white neighborhoods in better condition than those in Black and Latinx neighborhoods.

In alignment with these values, BGL invests in the communities of Baltimore, the District of Columbia, and throughout Maryland, working to improve the lives of residents. Learn more about our commitment to community impact and our core mission and history here.
