BGL embraces diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. As such, we foster a collaborative, creative environment in which every person can use their strengths to their fullest. We work hard to ensure Hispanic and Latinx voices are heard, and their stories told.
BGL is proud of its pro bono work on behalf of Latinx immigrants. We are currently working with Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) to try to gain legal immigration status for a family separated at the U.S.-Mexico border under the first Trump administration. Additionally, BGL attorneys have worked with the Esperanza Center to successfully secure Special Immigrant Juvenile status for immigrant youth. Our attorneys have obtained asylum for two LGBTQ+ men from Central America who fled persecution in their native countries. In partnership with Maryland Legal Aid, we also represented Latinx residents of a mobile home park on the Eastern Shore in danger of being closed, which could have resulted in hundreds of residents becoming displaced or homeless. We are also proud of our financial support of KIND, which is all the more important given the current federal funding cuts to their vital work on behalf of unaccompanied immigrant youth.
