Brown, Goldstein & Levy is thrilled to announce that attorney Michele Hall was selected to be a 2024-2025 Wasserstein Fellow through the Wasserstein Public Interest Fellows Program at Harvard Law School. Michele – an HLS alumna – is one of just 16 attorneys selected to the Wasserstein Fellows Program for the upcoming academic year from a highly competitive application process.
Michele was on Harvard’s campus from September 18-20 as the first visiting Fellow of the year. As part of the Fellowship, Michele met with 25 students for individual law school and career advising meetings about everything from careers as a plaintiff’s lawyer and public defender who transitioned from government to private practice. Michele also met with student groups, including the Harvard Plaintiff’s Law Association, Harvard Black Law Students Association, and Harvard Legal Aid Bureau.
In addition, Michele presented the talk “How to Lose: Perspectives on Strategies for Long-Term Change as a Public Interest Lawyer” to over 80 students and HLS staff. Michele’s talk focused how to take losses in public interest work and turn them into long-term systemic wins. She also met with the HLS Office of Public Interest Advising to share feedback about how to best prepare graduating students for the job market.
The Wasserstein Fellows Program was founded in 1990 to connect public interest attorneys with HLS students. The Program recognizes exemplary lawyers who have distinguished themselves in public interest work and who can advise students who are considering similar career paths. Each fellow was selected by a Dean-appointed committee due to their extraordinary public interest law careers. Wasserstein Fellows advise students about their career options and discuss their own field of specialization and experience.
Michele has a rich career in public interest law, having served for five years as a public defender at the Maryland Office of the Public Defender prior to joining Brown, Goldstein & Levy in October 2023 and expanding her practice to include civil rights and plaintiff’s side work.
