Lauren DiMartino was recently invited to join the Baltimore Youth Arts (BYA) Advisory Board. BYA is a nonprofit creative entrepreneurship and job training program that provides artistic and professional opportunities to young people aged 14 through 22 – with a particular focus on positively impacting Baltimoreans facing incarceration, the justice system, and the perceptions held by the community at large. BYA envisions a world where all young people have equal access to opportunities that allow them to discover their purpose.
As a member of the Advisory Board, she will use her experience in the law, higher ed, and marketing to serve as an advisor to the Director as they develop and implement BYA’s strategic plan. BYA’s work helps young people develop creative, personal and educational skills that will empower them to become leaders promoting equality and social justice in their communities. The long-term impacts of this work include creating economic self-sufficiency and affecting policies surrounding youth in the criminal justice system.
Lauren represents clients across various areas of civil rights matters, including fair housing, education and disability rights, police misconduct and workplace discrimination. Her practice also includes appeals, commercial litigation and criminal defense. Lauren graduated from the City University of New York School of Law with a concentration in social justice, equality and civil rights. She previously served as a law clerk to Judge Martha Craig Daughtrey on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and as the Legal Fellow at the University of Colorado School of Law’s Byron White Center for the Study of American Constitutional Law where she researched the potential for new civil rights legislation, analyzed trends in national injunctions, and helped develop new initiatives around voting and civic engagement.
