Prison heart attack leads to wrongful death suitFamily alleges government ignored man’s medical history by making him work outside during heatwave

The family of a man who died of a heart attack while in a federal prison in Cumberland is suing the government for allegedly failing to provide accommodations based on the man’s medical history.

Stephen P. Gardner previously had two heart attacks when he suffered a third in July 2013 after working outside during a heatwave, according to the complaint, filed in U.S. District Court in Baltimore.

The plaintiffs are represented by Andy Freeman.
