In a legal dispute that may have future policy consequences, Stu Simms successfully represented a terminally ill inmate. Simms successfully argued before both the Court of Special Appeals and Maryland’s highest Court, the Maryland Court of Appeals, that there was insufficient evidence that the inmate’s refusal to undergo dialysis would undermine security and discipline in the Maryland Division of Correction or endanger the ethics of the medical profession.
