Ms. Eisenberg.s practice focuses on civil and appellate litigation in state and federal courts, labor and employment matters and public interest litigation.

Career Milestones:
Ms. Eisenberg recovered $2.4 million in overtime pay and fees on behalf of 100 poultry workers on the Delmarva peninsula who had been misclassified by their employer as independent contractors. The landmark case established a national precedent, and served as a catalyst for other improvements in the plaintiffs. working conditions.

Significant Cases:

  Ms. Eisenberg has achieved significant victories on behalf of low-wage workers. In Heath v. Perdue Farms, 87 F. Supp. 2d 452 (D. Md. 2000), she served as lead counsel in case that recovered a total of $2.4 million in overtime pay and fees on behalf of low-wage poultry workers. She also was co-counsel in two national collective actions on behalf of poultry plant workers who were forced to work .off-the-clock. without compensation. Ms. Eisenberg has also won thousands of dollars in unpaid wages on behalf of migrant and seasonal workers on Maryland.s Eastern Shore.
  Ms. Eisenberg.s appellate victories include Williams v. Housing Authority, 361 Md. 143, 760 A.2d 697 (2000), which established that tenants may litigate warranty of habitability claims together with rent escrow claims in District Court, giving tenants a powerful tool to force landlords to repair substandard conditions in their home. Ms. Eisenberg was counsel in In re Norberto C., 133 Md. App. 558, 758 A.2d 637 (2000), which held that the trial court erred in denying a hearing to a child with a disability threatened with removal from the home of his foster mother of six years. Ms. Eisenberg has drafted numerous amicus curiae briefs on behalf of legal services and community organizations in state and federal courts.
  Ms. Eisenberg.s civil rights victories include Diggs v. Housing Authority, 67 F. Supp. 2d 522 (D. Md. 1999), which struck down a .trespass policy. that interfered with the right of public housing tenants to have guests, and Reid v. Glendening, which compelled the Circuit Court for Baltimore City to make its services and facilities accessible to people with disabilities.

Biography:
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Eisenberg worked for six and a half years at the Public Justice Center, a non-profit law firm based in Baltimore, Maryland. For three years, Ms. Eisenberg served as the Director of the PJC.s Appellate Advocacy Project. She represented individuals in significant civil rights and poverty law appellate matters and filed .friend of the court. briefs on behalf of legal services organizations and community groups to help appellate courts understand the broader implications of their rulings for underrepresented persons. In addition to her appellate work, Ms. Eisenberg developed and litigated complex civil cases on behalf of low-wage workers, individuals with disabilities, and tenants.

Prior to her tenure at the PJC, Ms. Eisenberg was an associate in the litigation department at one of Baltimore.s largest law firms, where she litigated complex civil cases in federal and state courts, including commercial, construction, employment, and health law matters.

Ms. Eisenberg remains active with the legal services community, and is spearheading an effort to establish a constitutional right to counsel for indigent litigants in civil cases that involve fundamental rights, such as contested child custody and housing matters.
